Mozilla has made great strides since I first stumbled across their project in 2002. At the time, Mozilla was making a web browser that could use a totally open source rendering engine. I also recall that that only a few people knew of it. At that time, Netscape was still in quite common use, but most people used Internet Explorer 5, 5.5, or 6. The hope at the time was to have Mozilla's product preserve an open Internet.
Time flies by in Internet time, and these days Mozilla Firefox is quite well known. The Internet is open as far as choice of browsers these days. Another problem looms these days, which is Internet or Net neutrality. The migration of online video to high definition quality is causing increased bandwidth clogs on the Internet. Some internet providers are trying to cap bandwidth to reduce congestions, while others are blocking traffic. I will discuss this more in the next post.
